RBG Summer Scholarship

For some parents, summer is an exciting time. They’re eager to go on their annual family vacations and spending extra time with their children. For other parents, summer is nothing more than a financial and education burden they must bear year after year, a reminder of how little they are working with.

Elissa Strauss of Slate.com writes about the realities parents in New York City experience trying to provide for their children during the summer, “...with day camp costing, on average, $271 a week,... In a city where 1 in 3 children live in poverty (the rate is 1 in 5 nationwide), going to camp is, for many children, just another luxury their parents can’t afford.”

Summer is and should be an opportunity for parents to expose their children to the many beautiful experiences our world and city has to offer.

QUALITY SUMMER PROGRAMS SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED LUXURY

COMMUNITY AND FUNDRAISING PARTNERS.

The application is due on March 16th. We hope to have all funds raised before then so we can accurately assess how many scholarships we can give out before selecting winners. With the average program costing $271 a week, at 8 weeks, the average scholarship will cost $2168 to cover the full cost of the program per student.

Any remaining balance of donations will be set aside for 2019 scholarships
